New England Pike - Being a Guide is Rewarding!

New England Pike - Being a Guide is Rewarding!

Dan with his first Pike on the fly! He worked is tail off and it paid off! Esox fishing is not always rewarding and has it’s ups and downs, keep casting and stay positive. Pike fishing here in New England is really heating up right now, water temps in the 60’s and days getting shorter! Hiring a guide to up your game and learn as much as you can pike fishing or musky fishing, can be worth it!

I am off to Wisconsin next week until Nov 1st 2019, it is going to be a fun fall! I still have open dates for early November here in CT for pike trips!

June 1st, Pike Great Bass Bite Getting Bettter

June 1st, Pike Great Bass Bite Getting Bettter

As the bass slowly coming off their spawn they are getting frisky and showing up more consistently each day! The pike, well, the pike are being cooperative and smashing flies left and right! We are only weeks, in my opinion from top water season!

Connecticut Pike

Connecticut Pike

Pike fishing and post spawn pike are still hot. The water temps are holding in the 50’s, making Pike in Connecticut spunky and eating well. We are working for them but they are showing up everyday! Here is a picture of Tyler with his first Pike on the Fly!

Pike Fishing Connecticut HOT

Pike Fishing Connecticut HOT

It has really heated up! Water temps increasing and post spawn fish eating equals multiple fish days! Joe, with his first pike and it was a doozie, we needed 5 fish in 5 hours, it was EPIC! I hope this continues as long as it can before these fish start spreading out and going into their summer haunts! Happy Fishing! I have dates available, if interested in a guided trip!

Connecticut Smallmouth HOT!

Connecticut Smallmouth HOT!

April Smallmouth are on fire right now. As the water temps seem to be holding around 44 degrees here in Northern CT, the pre-spawn smallies are starting to show off. Small flies and a slower retrieve seems to be doing the trick.

Pike are post spawn for sure. We are seeing fish with commitment issues and smaller males right now on the regular. Water flows are up and down with snow run off and mother nature dropping rain a few times a week but the clarity has been holding strong! Have dates available if interested in a guided trip!

Connecticut Pike - Post Spawn

Connecticut Pike - Post Spawn

After being on the water the last few days, and a few friends who fished as well, we are starting to see some post spawn activity for pike here in CT. I believe they are just wrapping up or about to be wrapped up. We have been seeing smaller males being active, and even landed a nice female outside of the spawning area.

The warm temps this weekend should really help water temps and post spawn pike. Kate landed her first pike on the fly! It was a very exciting moment for Kate and myself watching here skills improve every time out.

Spring is starting to book up, if you are interested in a guided trip, reach out, would love to fish with you! Happy Fishing 2019!

Officially a Captain - OUPV - Connecticut - Pogo Pike

Over the last 10 days I took the Coast Guard Captains License course and was successful! It was an amazing journey. I learned so much, met some great people, and studied like my days in college. It was an awesome experience. I am very proud to have gone through and passed the course. Captain Joe our instructor, was a great mentor and teacher! My friend Pete was an inspiration and my rock through the process. Kate my girlfriend was a huge support system as well.

You now have to call me Captain Pogo, joking! To anyone interested and has questions, I would be more than happy to share my experience.

Fly Tying - Pike & Musky Flies - The Compleat Angler

It was a fun day Saturday at the Compleat Angler Fly Shop in Darien, CT. Scott and Bob are great guys and the fly shop is second to none. Has everything you can ever need for gear and fly fishing. It was a fun day meeting new people, sharing my passion for big flies. I hope to come back next year and will definitely be a regular at the Compleat Angler in the upcoming season.

Pike in Connecticut - Still Decent!

Pike in Connecticut - Still Decent!

We are still getting out there, picking days the air temps are decent and the river flow is fishable. The rain today wont help the flows but water temps for sure. We got this one yesterday, water temps were 32.5 degrees but flows were a little above average. We made the best of it! A slow retrieve is key!

Happy Holidays! -Pogo Pike

38 degree water temps and the fish were active during bite window. A slow retrieve seems to do the trick. Water levels are still high in the rivers, the ground just can’t absorb any more water. Hopefully mother nature gives us a few more weeks. Tight lines!

Why Knot Fishing & SVS Fishing Podcast

Why Knot Fishing & SVS Fishing Podcast

Last week I attended and sponsored a 1/2 day guided trip to support our Veterans at a Why Knot Fishing Event in CT. It was a great time for a great cause!

This Sunday, December 2nd, I will be a guest on the SVS Fishing Podcast, we will be talking musky, pike, and guiding topics. I can’t wait! Here is a link to their website: https://svsfishing.podbean.com/ They have had some great guests on over the years, a ton of info.

Now lets talk fishing quick, the Housy here locally has been fishing well for trout, despite the constant up and down flows. A friend got into 15 fish last week. There is a solid window this weekend through Monday. Going to get out and pike fish and guide. Air temps look good and flows should drop by then, no major rain in the forecast. As the kids say, Tight Lines!

Rain Go Away - Connecticut Fishing Guide

Rain Go Away - Connecticut Fishing Guide

After being back in CT from musky hunting in Wisconsin, we are just waiting for the flows to get back to somewhat normal levels. CT seems like Seattle this fall. The rain forecast for the next 14 days seem manageable.

The water temps are still good, high 40’s low 50’s. We are going to get some chilly weather next week however, it seems to creep back up the following week. If levels recede it should be good for the last few weeks of November. As long as you can dress warm and deal with low 40 degree air temps.

Stay tuned for some November fish pics.

Wisco '18 Fall was EPIC!

Wisco '18 Fall was EPIC!

Back from Northern Wisconsin after 6 weeks of fishing and guiding. We left it all on the table. It was an epic fall to say the least. I broke my personal best twice, clients got into fish everyday, and my GF landed 3 muskies in a few outings.

I dont know what else to say other than I can not wait until Sept ‘19 heading out there. I will be booking guided musky trips from mid Sept till the end of October in northern Wisco starting this winter

On a local note, these rains here in CT and New England are flooding the rivers. I was so excited to get back home and do some local pike fishing and guiding. Might have to wait a few weeks for the rivers to come down. The water temp is perfect for big fish, Lets all pray the rains stop for the rest of November.

Musky Boot Camp

Musky Boot Camp

Another fall in Wiso hunting musky on the fly is never boring, Hard work, discipline, and grinding everyday can pay off. Hence, the fish here. I got my personal best musky on the fly. It was an epic experience with a good friend Dan Daly.

Guiding has been hot as well. I spent the last two days with fishy dudes from Maine, we boated 5 muskies in 2 days. Water temps around 48 now, but under a cold snap and high water. I hoping the second half of October is just as fun and rewarding as the first half.

Tight lines to all!

Pike Madness

Pike Madness

Right before heading out to Wisconsin musky hunting, The week of Sept 16th was epic. The pike bite was on, a few new clients getting their first pike on the fly, and multiple big girls in the same day fishing the major bite windows during the day. It was a blast.

Making memories with new clients having their first amazing pike eat boat side, there is nothing better!
