bass on the fly
Back from Northern Wisconsin after 6 weeks of fishing and guiding. We left it all on the table. It was an epic fall to say the least. I broke my personal best twice, clients got into fish everyday, and my GF landed 3 muskies in a few outings.
I dont know what else to say other than I can not wait until Sept ‘19 heading out there. I will be booking guided musky trips from mid Sept till the end of October in northern Wisco starting this winter
On a local note, these rains here in CT and New England are flooding the rivers. I was so excited to get back home and do some local pike fishing and guiding. Might have to wait a few weeks for the rivers to come down. The water temp is perfect for big fish, Lets all pray the rains stop for the rest of November.
Right before heading out to Wisconsin musky hunting, The week of Sept 16th was epic. The pike bite was on, a few new clients getting their first pike on the fly, and multiple big girls in the same day fishing the major bite windows during the day. It was a blast.
Making memories with new clients having their first amazing pike eat boat side, there is nothing better!
It was so much fun to share all things pike and musky on the fly during my hour presentation to the Croton Watershed Trout Unlimited Chapter. This is the second presentation I have done for TU over the last few years and it is always a blast! Seeing peoples feedback who have not fished for pike and musky on the fly is always fun!
After a few weeks of massive thunderstorms and heavy rains, the rivers shot way up and clarity was not good at all for weeks. I spent time wisely, and tied flies for a week, that and split fire wood for the winter, lucky me ;)
Well, here we are, August 26th and flows are finally back to normal. Cool day and evening temps in Northern CT has brought the water temps down as well. This is a all a great recipe for the fall bite to start for larger fish, especially pike.
The next 4 weeks should be excellent fishing!
Follow me on IG at Pogo_Pike It is always an exciting time when your new boat arrives! Last month I added another Stealthcraft to our repertoire, the Stealthcraft Hooligan! https://www.stealthcraftboats.com/?page_id=1108
After a month of using the Hooligan, I am completely in awe of how it performs. A good friend and fellow guide said, "for a small boat if fishes big". I have taken it down the skinniest of water with 3 people, loaded it in the bed of my truck, brought up and down river banks, with the little effort.
We now have two Stealthcraft boats, the 16 foot Power Drifter Jet Sled, and the Hooligan regular. If you have any questions or in the Northeast and would like to test of our my boats, feel free to reach out.
The Stealthcraft Hooligan opens up so much water most people can't float or get into areas a typical drift boat can. I am excited to have this as an option for new water and old water!
The smallmouth bass and northern pike bite continues to impress. With the consistent rain over the last few weeks has made for up and down conditions. However, it has done wonders for the fish. Keeping fresh water flowing as the water temps approach almost 80, it is for sure going to help the survival rate as fall is right around the corner. Top water is off the hook, pun intended. What a great time with clients and friends! Exciting! I have open dates for end of August and September! Come on out!
Top water action is in full affect! Been having stellar days on top water. The smallmouth, and good size ones, have been smashing top water, seems to be an early morning and evening steady bite. This cool off we are having locally, low to mid 50's at night and high 70's low 80's during the day, I believe is cooling off the water and helping the fish become more active and happy!
This typically happens in late August and the fishing skyrockets, luckily it is happening now and hopefully again in late August. Happy Fishing! - Pogo Pike
As the waters warm up and summer is starting to really settle in, we did a Tiger Musky / Largemouth Bass mission recently. We had success, boated three tigers and a few nice size Largemouth on big files.
It was exciting to say the least. We focused our efforts on deeper water structure, weed lines, and drop offs with heavy sinking lines. It paid off! Hope your summer is getting fishy!
